The UVC-450 Room Steriliser
The British-designed and built UV-Systems UVC-450 is a high-output portable UVC disinfection unit that works alongside your regular cleaning regime, safely killing up to 99.99% airborne and surface laid viruses and bacteria in a range of indoor environments from ceiling to floor in a fast, thorough, efficient and safe manner.
The UVC-450 is independently verified to meet BS 8628:2022, the industry standard for UV disinfection products. UV-C systems that pass this standard provide a clear benchmark as to whether the system is effective enough to be achieving greater than Log 5 reduction in bacteria.
The unit incorporates proven UV-C light sterilisation technology from Phillips. The faultless sanitisation technology guarantees to neutralise and eliminate harmful pathogens, bacteria and viruses from every single surface and touchpoint when and where you require via single or multiple placements providing versatility for operators and facilities.
An array of precision UV-C lamps with bespoke UV reflectors mounted on the movable platform ensure the UV-C concentration is strong enough to kill Covid quickly and efficiently.
What is BS 8628:2022?
Published in April 2022, BS 8628:2022 is the new industry standard for UV disinfection products. Its introduction brings a standardised method of testing disinfection using ultraviolet radiation.
Largely based on the existing airborne disinfection standard EN 17272:2020, with some minor variations for UV devices, this new method standardises a distance for the emitter from a test surface, allowing for an assessment of power vs contact time for the UV unit.
Incorporating proven UV-C light sterilisation technology the UVC-450 safely kills 99.9% airborne and surface laid viruses and bacteria in a range of indoor environments, including:
Coronavirus
E-Coli
Hepatitis A
Norovirus
Rotavirus
Influenza
Vibrio Cholera
Staphylococcus Aureua
How the system works
To clean a room or space, you simply move the UVC-450 into the area to be treated with UV-C. The unit is mains powered and plugged into a 13-amp socket. Controlled by a touch screen, the precision UV-C lamps are activated two minutes after the person has left the space.
The UV tower will not be switched on until the inbuilt motion detection, senses that the room is clear of people. If a person enters the space before the cycle is complete, the motion detector turns off the UV lamps.
The unit is then set to run for a predetermined amount of time. This is dependent on room size and the equipment within the room. A room 5 metres by 5 metres would only take 10-20 minutes to remove up to 99.99% of the viruses on surfaces, with the room ready for use straight after treatment.

The role of ultraviolet disinfection in infection control and environmental cleaning
UV radiant energy has a long history for this purpose, having first been used for disinfecting surfaces in 1877, for water in 1910 and for air in 1935. It works by using a short-wavelength ultraviolet ‘light’, or radiant energy, to distort the genetic material of harmful organisms, rendering them incapable of creating copies of themselves.
In the context of virus sterilisation, a powerful subtype of UV light known as UV-C has been shown to be the most effective. This was proven in 2020 by Boston University researchers who validated UV-C light sources were capable of inactivating SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.
The UVC-450 provides an effective, chemical free method of infection control and is proven to reduce levels of bacteria and funguses with log 4 – 6 kills. In terms of infection control, ‘Log Reductions’ convey how effective a product is at reducing pathogens. The greater the log reduction the more effective the product is at killing bacteria and other pathogens that can cause infections.
Log Reduction | Number of CFUs | % Reduction | Times Smaller |
---|---|---|---|
0 | 1000000 | 0 | 0 |
1 | 100000 | 90 | x10 |

What our clients say:
The UVC-450 was part of several strategies we investigated to make our school as safe as possible. The built-in safety features, no use of chemicals and fast easy disinfection of our classrooms and communal areas gives us that extra layer of protection in addition to our existing manual cleaning processes. Following Covid we needed to produce some sort of a new normal, where our students and teachers are protected.
